Since 1974, Camp Susan Curtis has been providing tuition-free camping for economically underprivileged children of Maine. Over 650 children, ages eight to fifteen attended Camp Susan Curtis last summer in one of our four 2-week sessions. Camp Susan Curtis is accredited by the American Camping Association and strives to offer the positive experiences and environment that many economically disadvantaged children need to gain self-esteem, a sense of belonging, and achievement.

Camp Susan Curtis is more than "Just a summer Camp". It is an investment in underprivileged children's future. Our social skills programming at CSC is woven into everything we do and is an extension of the public schools. Each camper is referred by professionals from their school and this team approach creates a helpful support system for each child. Behind every fun activity and outdoor experience is the teaching of social skills, a strength-based environment, and the attempt to enhance each childs emotional intelligence. Over half of our new campers this summer will come back for 6 years, so this long term supportive relationship can be very impactful. The collaboration between families, schools, Camp Susan Curtis, and the communities can truly provide a "hand-up" in life for each child. It's amazing to think that a child can come to CSC at the age of 8, and still directly benefit from our Camp's College Scholarship Program in their 20's.

Camp Susan Curtis provides well-rounded programming and activities in areas such as: Performing & Creative Arts (Theatre, Dance, Yoga, Pottery, Arts & Crafts), Experiential and Adventure-Based Activities (Canoe & Backpacking Trips, Ropes Course, Group Challenge), Environmental Education (Nature Study, Water Ecology, Environmental Awareness, Service Projects) and Traditional Fun Camp Activities (Waterfront, Boating, Sports, Group Games, Ga Ga & Campfires). Woven into each activity is the common themes of: fun, respect, learning and safety. The family atmosphere at Camp is just as important as our activities. Many current staff are former campers which adds to the family feel and keeps the special traditions at camp alive.

Our diverse and experienced staff is drawn from teachers, former campers, and college aged students with an education, social work or environmental education background. All show one common characteristic: “They are there for the kids”. Camp Susan Curtis is nestled in the spectacular White Mountains of Maine. The 2200 acres of protected forest is situated on crystal clear Trout Lake.
